Bill’s Hydraulic Jack Service, Inc Began
Bill’s Hydraulic Jack Service, Inc. was started by William Chester Nye in the garage of his home in Glendale, CA in 1955. William Nye, or Bill as he was known, was a veteran of WWII and received the Purple Heart for wounds and injuries he received at the Battle of Iwo Jima which resulted in the amputation of his left leg at the hip. From his garage, and later from his industrial shop in North Hollywood, CA, he began to manufacture and repair a number of hydraulically operated equipment that ranged from mobile aircraft stairs to automotive floor jacks.

Partnership
In 1974 Bill took on as a partner his son William Randall Nye. Randy, as he is commonly known, took over the automotive side of Bill’s Hydraulic and apprenticed under Bill until ultimately buying the company outright and splitting off the non-automotive portion of the business to be operated by Bill. Bill’s Hydraulic continued to service, repair and install a wide variety of automotive shop equipment while operating out of the North Hollywood, CA shop. Among the equipment that was worked on were in-ground and above-ground automotive lifts, air, grease and water reels, air compressors, brake lathes, tire changers and wheel balancers. All of these repairs and installations were done with affiliation of companies such as Rotary Lift, Aamco, Coats, and many other manufacturers.

Sacramento
After working in the Southern California market for many years and raising a family in the suburbs of Simi Valley, CA, Randy felt it was time to move the business to the home town area of his beloved wife Sue and put out his shingle in Sacramento, CA in 1981. Randy sold the name and market in Southern California to….and moved the business to Sacramento.

Since moving from Southern California to the Sacramento market Bill’s Hydraulic has expanded and contracted a number of different times and in a number of different ways. A focus on repairs and installation of automotive lifts on the new construction side worked into an expansion into the service and repair of existing lifts and equipment. As the automotive equipment service/repair/installation business became more competitive and the business climate in California changed, so did the focus of operations at Bill’s Hydraulic.
